While gradual natural aging affects the appearance of your entire face, the area around the eyes is particularly sensitive and is the first area prone to visible manifestations of aging. One of the most common reasons for visits to an oculoplastic surgeon is a client’s feeling that they are in dire need of “eyelid surgery”, but in fact this may not necessary be true.
Drooping eyelids may be caused by two specific phenomena, or their combination. The first is the formation of excess skin and fat in the upper eyelid area, resulting in a tired and distressed appearance. The second cause is the often gradual fall of the eyebrow, or forehead, which puts pressure on the external part of the eyelid. As the brow falls further, the eyes may appear to be permanently frowning. Sometimes, however, drooping eyelids can be caused by a combination of these two processes.
Based on an examination by a specialist in order to determine the cause of the drooping eyelids, the patient is either given plastic surgery on the upper eyelids, a so-called blepharoplasty, or what is known as a brow-lift, or both operations.
The best way to determine which approach is most appropriate to correct drooping eyelids is through a personal consultation and evaluation with an oculoplastic surgeon. A correct diagnosis is an essential precondition in order to achieve optimal results.

Upper eyelid plastic surgery

Plastic surgery of the inner corner of Asian eyes - epicanthoplasty
Epicanthus is a skin fold located in the inner corner of the eyelids that covers the inner part of the eye corner. This fold is present in 2-5% of the non-Asian population, while in the Asian population, it ranges from 40-90%.
Epicanthoplasty is a cosmetic procedure that involves the removal of the epicanthal fold (the fold in the inner corner) to elongate and open up the inner part of the eye. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia and takes approximately 45 minutes.
People often combine epicanthoplasty with upper eyelid plastic surgery to achieve more beautiful and brighter-looking eyes.
